If the people vote in a president who wants universal health care, then they are agreeing as a majority to have goodwill legislated. The most important thing to realize is that ppl living in a country with socialized healthcare do not debate the issue... yet in america the issue is widely debated. Clearly something must be done, maybe not complete socialized medicine... but for goodness sake, something.

I realize that they are all available, but the healthcare side is mostly available through insurance. And as for your point on food being a right... well for how cheap it sells in america it practically is a right. My country is fat, one of the fattest in the world... but yours is fatter. Universal health care will bring up the prices of food among other things, this will in turn bring down your waste line making you all healthier.

working and rich to pay the bills of some one else? How does that not amount to theft? Our system may not be perfect but a few changes will fix many of the problems we have without further screwing the country up with socialized healhcare.

I am paying for another's bills do I get a say in what is provided for that person. Does the government get to legislate approved activities. Here's an example, Joe smokes a pack a day for 30yrs. He knows full well the dangers of this activity, why should I pay for emphyseme treatment when he developes lung cancer? Should we fine or require fat people to undergo treatment (It happens in many countries with Socalized healthcare)? And finally how to you pay for this system? Taking money from the

sorry the expamples you sited are not affiliated with the federal govmt. They are state controlled. I can tolerate my money going to support infastructor projects and security for this country. The government has a great record of fucking up anything beyond that with their endless restrictions, buracracy, and redtape. The private sector has allways proven superior to anything the federal government can create. But lets just run with this idea of 'socialized healthcare' for a second. 1st, since

It's great that you want to help other people. But the important point to take is that a desire is not an obligation. You cannot legislate goodwill or kindness. Of course I will be the first to admit there are problems with the current system. But you are trying to throw the baby out with the bathwater. It is a much more complicated matter than simply every one pitching in to kindly help one another. I can tolerate my earned money going to support infastructur and security for this nation, but

(cont)Funny...food is not one of those things you think is a "right".You CAN live without ever seeing a Doctor, but can not live without food. Why is health care a right and food isn't?...and where is this right enumerated?

enan:"education, police, fire dept, health care.. should be available to every citizen"They are available to everyone.

enan:"Every citizen in the country pools money together, and that all goes to hospitals, doctors etc"I do not want to pool my money. A FREE country does not force you to pool your money.
WeedaPeople (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
enan:" I WANT to help other people"Good...then you go help people. We do not want to be forced to help people we do not want to help. We will help those we want to help. That is part of being in a FREE country. FREE to help or not help.
