Chopin Prelude Op 45 Prelude No.16 Op.25 Garrick Ohlsson
There are very few pianists before the public today that I would even walk across the street to hear perform an all Chopin recital.Garrick Ohlsson is the exception.

I heard him play a Liszt Concerto (the showy one)in Iceland when I was playing in the Orchestra in early 1973.He was absolutely fantastic.I also remember he won the Chopin Competition.

I could be wrong but I think in the 70's that Garrick won the International Chopin Competition -- the first American to ever do so. The Poles love him as the Russians love Cliburn. -- and I agree, we need more recordings of his on YouTube.

Thank you, Beckmesser2, for posting this video. It's Chopin I love. Garrick Ohlsson is a great pianist.

I completely agree with coasterman16. Thank you for recognizing that. I was mesmerized by him playing in Atlanta last year. One of the best interpretation of Chopin that I have heard of.

I understand your appreciation for Chopin - his music is the most challenging technically and musically.

My teacher used to say: "Your 16th notes sound like eighth notes." Well, here the eighth notes sound like quarter notes: their natural forward momentum is inhibited by the overly slow playing. Chopin wrote eighth notes for a reason, it's not a purely mathematical issue. Lento (here) does not equal Sostenuto, which is the tempo indication. I will say, however, that playing this piece extremely slow makes it somewhat more dificult, not less.

you only say its too slow ecause your comparing it to other people interpritations this is just his interpriation! if he thought it was too slow he wouldnt have played i that way would he have?

I agree with kelleypb2008. It could be a bit faster and more even tempo less rubato, would add drama to the playing.

Lovely, tender tone, beautiful phrasing, real cantabile on both hands; a truly poetic performance.Thank you, Beckmesser2.
