Freedoom 0.6.2 (March 2008)

You may wonder what this is about. Well, the source code of the original DOOM engine was released in 1997 (re-released under the GPL in 1999), and since then it was bugfixed and enhanced by the community and ported to several platforms; even to those where the original game wasn't available before. But these so called source ports still need the proprietary game data, which isn't available for free. DOOM is still sold on stores. This is the point Freedoom drops in. Freedoom aims to be a free replacement of the original game data, so the result is a complete game which is Free Software. If you want to play DOOM without paying for it, you can either use the shareware version or you can try this. Another purpose is to play several classic mods done by fans over the past 15 years without the need of the original full version.Unfortunately, Freedoom isn't finished yet. It still needs to replace maps, graphics, sprites, sounds and music, so this project is always looking for contributors.More about it at: http://freedoom.sourceforge.ne... my channel for more about DOSBox!

You should show level 30 of this replacement. Ten times bigger than the original. And they have a new graphic for the head... It's a known free software figure... I'm not saying any names, but if you're curious reach the Icon of Sin and get to it's room the conventional way and voila! This level is really hard, I had to try like 10 times to understand it. It even has a puzzle section, really, really awesome.

Yep, as long a abandonware game is being sold it is illegal to distribute the game freely unless the developers decided to rerelease the game as freeware (like Marathon for example).

I can't get past level 10 (or 11) of this game, I reach a room with a door I can't open and a stair, there are no switches and I can't go back once I enter it.Also, in level 5 I unlocked all the secrets except the rocket launcher, I've tried everything and I don't find any way to lower the column or teleport in top of it.Are those troubles due to the matureness of the replacement, or just something I'm doing bad?

Unfortunately, you're wrong. Being abandonware just means that the developer doesn't provide any support anymore. This doesn't mean you're allowed to distribute it for free.

Dude, being abandonware is what MAKES it legal.
